Default Completing a passport application

I finally broke down and picked up a passport application. One of the questions asked is what is the city and state where your parents were born. My birth certificate only lists the state, not the city. I haven't been able to find out the city of one of my parents. . Will they allow you complete this question without it and just use the state? I haven't gotten around to visiting the post office to ask and was just wondering if anyone knew.

Thanks Pamda. Of course, I realize that would be the best way of finding out. But on a Friday night, I found myself with too much time on my hands and was surfing the cruise boards. Just thought I would throw the question out for the heck of it. ;0 Maybe I'll post back after I call on Monday in case anyone else might find themselves in a similar situation in the future.

I know when my Mom got her passport she did not know the city that her father was born in and was told to write in "unknown." She had no problems getting her passport and no questions were asked!

My dad was born in a farmhouse, not in a city anywhere. I just put the county in which I knew he was born.

Pamda,

In that last case, I would use the post office city that provided mail service to the farm as the city, or the county seat where the birth was registered,
