The "kelly method" is simply a way to see what room you have on Carnival when you booked a guarantee. It does not help you, in any way, get the guarantee. Those seem to be fairly random, thus the references to the upgrade fairy! Good luck, though!
Only done on if you're cruising on Carnival. You need your Carnival 6-digit booking number. Go to the Carnival website, and click on the link to Gifts & Services. You're going to pretend you're buying something, so enter one of the item #'s like you're going to buy it, and hit enter (or Go ... whatever). The next screen asks for your booking # and your cabin #. You enter your booking #, then you start guessing at cabin #s. Potentially a long process ... Every time you enter the wrong cabin #, it will say "invalid". When you finally have found your cabin, the screen will show your names, your ship, your cruise date. But, even then, after all that work, there's no assurance that will be your cabin. So, this is just for fun, just for the curious, and requires time and patience to do.
All that said, Be happy ... Don't worry ... Happy cruising!
No problem, Dolores -- I don't mind answering any of your questions!
Yes, what Mike said. They assign you a cabin after final payments are in. Then if they need that room for another paying customer, you will be assigned to yet another room. You can get upgraded and downgraded multiple times. That's why they don't tell you!
And, it doesn't GET you the upgrade -- it just tells you what room you're assigned to at that moment in time. Sometimes it never changes, and as Mike said, sometimes it will change multiple times. The granting of upgrades is done without any coercion from you! You're lucky if you get one, and if you don't, you got what you paid for! Like I said in my earlier post, this is just for fun, just for the curious!
Thank you everyone for your kind responses. We are taking our first cruise since our honeymoom 18 years ago this December (New Years). But this time we are taking our 3 girls, ages 15, 9 and 6. We are crusing on RCI Vision of the Seas (Mexico).
I am very excited to see the changes in cruising over the past 18 years!! I have a feeling I'll be pleasantly surprised.
