I'd prefer that my e-mail NOT BE SHOWN IN MY PROFILE AS I DO NOT WISH TO RECEIVE INDIVIDUAL e-mails.
Have ticked the box indicating that preference but am not sure that it 'takes' - like now - my e-mail address is showing.
I'd appreciate confirmation that my address is NOT AVAILABLE TO ALL POSTERS.
"E-mail replies to this thread, to the address above" - - I have NOT TICKED IT - does this mean that the reply will come to my e-mail address or to the 'thread' I'M CONFUSED!!!!! Clarification, please :-)
Suki, I have also requested that my e-mail address not be shown. However, sometimes I get e-mail in response to a message I posted. When someone starts a new topic, they have the option to check a box called "E-mail replies to this thread, to the address above." I think if the person who started the topic has checked this box, your e-mail address will be sent to them. This confuses me.
Also make sure you're logged in every time you post, because if you aren't, your e-mail address may be visible.
Cheers,
Michelle B.

Other forums have a system whereby 'private messages' may be sent via the webmaster. - this works well - I may indicate that I will or will not accept private message to my e-mail address - if I check "YES" then you may send me a private message - I can reply or otherwise at my discretion - I don't receive your address and you don't get mine but we can communicate......and, if we so choose, exchange addresses. That system makes sense to me.
Given the option of keeping 'secret' my e-mail address and so indicating, I think that's the way it should be.
Why do you say, "make sure you're logged in every time you post, because if you aren't, your e-mail address may be visible"? Should I log-out after each post? Makes me wonder about 'security'.
I've nothing to hide but on the other hand, do not chose to have every Tom, Dick and Harry, Jane, Ann or Betty able to contact me.
Donna, somebody............any answers??
As a 'new kid on the block’, hope I’m not way off base raising these questions.
Hi Suki,
Now I'm getting confused too, . I still don't see your e-mail, so thats the way you want it. I just log-in and I sometimes notice that somehow I got logged off, so I just log in and keep it that way, usually works for me. Don't understand about private messages here though, can you fill me in on that?
You can also check the box at the bottom and see if you get any threads to you e-mail?? Let me know if you do even though your e-mail doesn't show. Still learning all this stuff :-)
is right - confusion compounded is more like it - I'm happy with my e-mail not showing up - my post was prompted by 'mbuckellew 's 'message.
The private message thing is from another great board - send me an e-mail if you'd like the URL - have noticed that it, the other board, deletes names of other boards - geeze what a sentence! - hopefully you follow my drift!
I'm sure you will figure out how you will eventually get all the boards you will figure out how your e-mail cruise with sure, however I am happy tell you that all the time I've been on cruisemates I've had about 2 private e-mails. Almost will post in public.
Why do you say, "make sure you're logged in every time you post, because if you aren't, your e-mail address may be visible"? Should I log-out after each post? Makes me wonder about 'security'.
You don't have to log out after each post, but I've noticed that sometime the system logs you out just because you moved to another part of the message boards. You don't have to do anything to prompt these random log-outs.
It doesn't happen very often so I usually don't worry about it. You might just make sure that "Log Out" is still an option at the bottom of a thread. If it isn't there, you need to log in again.
I don't mind people writing me to ask a simple question, or just a quick comment on my response, although that's what I think the boards are for. I've just had an incident once or twice where someone got my e-mail by checking the "E-mail replies to this thread, to the address above" box and decided I was their new pen pal. (It's my understanding that when the box is checked, replies posted on the board will both be posted on the board and e-mailed personally to the person who started the thread, thus giving them your e-mail address.)
Cheers,
Michelle B.

I think we're on the road to 'being on track'! - at least I hope so!" :-) What about you?
Quote - "E-mail replies to this thread, to the address above" box - -
I have NOT TICKED IT - does this mean that the reply will come to my e-mail address or to the 'thread'
That sounds like the right answer. Leave the box unticked, and no one's replies will be e-mailed to you.
I did an experiment on one of the other topics and started a thread. I did tick the box. People's replies not only were posted in the thread, but were e-mailed to my personal e-mail address.
You have the option to tick the box even if you are simply replying to a topic. However, someone else who has either started the thread or posted on it could have ticked the box, and your reply will then be e-mailed to them. Whether someone else gets your reply e-mailed to them has nothing to do with whether or not you have ticked the box. This gives them access to your e-mail address.
I don't think there's anything that can be done about it.
You're right, the "Attachment (Browse)" box is for a adding a picture or other attachment, just like you were sending it to somebody over e-mail. When you add an attachment it is accessable in your post.
Cheers,
Michelle B.

We're really into the 'nitty-gritty' , Eh? (that so called Canadianism)! :-) :-) Hopefully our chatter is informative and interesting to others - far removed as it is from the subject of cruising!
One of the 'hotmail' plusses is that if a name is not on my 'OK' address list, the e-mail goes into the Junk folder and is automatically deleted after 7 days. I do check regularly and salvage what might be a 'valid' message - no other ISP that I know of provides such a great service. Just checked and trashed 200 'spams' which came in over 3 days!...too much and 99% porn!
