Default ? for cruisemates staff re: how to do the countdown clock

I have asked this question and so have many others from the posts I have seen. It may be a coinkydink but I don't recall where a cruisemate staff ever answered but...how do we get the countdown clock on our signature? One person told me to copy hers, paste it on a word doc, make the changes and put it on the signature in my profile. The only steps that worked there was the copy and paste, could not change it. That should be something to add on the message board tricks but put it in easy enough instructions so us users can do it easily. Just a suggestion!

Hi Nushnakka,
Here is a copy from a post in "Chit Chat" board that explains exactly how to do the countdown clock:

I've noticed many requests for help with creating a countdown clock lately, so I thought I would put together a little tutorial. Hope it helps.

How to create a countdown clock

These instructions only work if you are a registered member of CruiseMates.

1. In any of the message threads, scroll to the bottom. Among the options listed will be "My Profile." Click on it.

2. Click on "Edit Profile."

3. In the "Signature" blank, place the URL for the countdown clock like so:
[ img] countdown clock URL [/ img]
(Don't put spaces in the brackets. I've done it for example purposes because if I didn't you wouldn't be able to see the code.)
Here is the URL for the countdown clock. Cut-and-paste it into your signature space. Please note that it's all on one line (no carriage returns); it wraps around due to limited space.

http://escati.linkopp.net/cgi-bin/co...zone=GMT-0500f

Where you see the 2002;12;15; put your own cruise departure date.
Where you see the 16;00;00 put the time of your departure. This time would be
12:00 pm EST (GMT - 5 hours and daylight savings - I'm not sure exactly how this works out to 12:00 but it does.)

You can follow the code with the name of your ship or whatever you're counting down to, if you choose.

Here's how it should look:

Good luck!

Cheers,
Michelle B.

Hopefully it will work and thank-you Michelle for the lessons :-)

Thanks for posting that, Donna.

The original post had pictures in it to illustrate the steps, but they're not there anymore, so I hope the above message isn't more confusing to you than helpful, Diane.

Now that Norm has told me how to embed tags in a post, I can now put the url in exactly as you should cut and paste it into your signature space.

[img[img][/img]]http://escati.linkopp.net/cgi-bin/countdown.cgi?trgb=000000&prgb=990099&cdt=2002;12; 15;16;00;00&timezone=GMT-0500f[/img[img][/img]]

I don't know why you're unable to edit the URL in your signature space, Diane... keep trying, but if you still can't get it to work, let me know the date and time of your departure and I'll modify it and post it here. Then you can just cut and paste it directly, without modifications.

Cheers,
Michelle B.

Diane,
If all those past cruises are in your signature space as well, be aware that there's a limit to how many characters you can put in the space. This may be cutting the end off your countdown clock.

Cheers,
Michelle B.

thanks ladies but this did not work. I tried several times, the url is in my profile signature but it did not come up right. I did a copy from Michelle's, made the change in word doc because when I tried to change it in the signature it would clear out some of the url, copied it again and pasted into the signature but nothing. Well I do have a countdown clock on my PC so I will just stick with that. Thanks again for your help.

Melanie,

It does seem to be more trouble than it should. I think the message board software tries to parse your signature string unless it's pasted in exactly as Michelle shows in the third message of this discussion. Try again and note that you can edit the same message over and over to test changes. If nothing else, it will distract you from waiting for your cruise!

Cheryl, you don't need to post a new post to see the clock's time.

Since it pulls from your profile each time the post is opened, it will show you what it's been adjusted to when you open your old posts.
