Those Neat Moving Characters
I'm sure this has been asked ad nauseum in the past, but being new, I must have missed it.

How does one add those neat moving figures (or scenes) to e-mails? Do they only work here on these boards, or will they work on my regular e-mail? Almost 40 years in the IT business, and it's come to this. Where are punched cards when you need them?

Thanks in advance. I really do live vicariously through the messages on these boards, and can't wait until the missus and I can get back to sea.

Thanks again.

Re: Those Neat Moving Characters
Hi Sid,
I think what you are referring to are the .gifs a lot of us use here on the boards, unfortunately they don't work the same in e-mails, but you can look at the directions for putting these in posts here, its easy and feel free to use any you find in the Cruisemates gallery. If you need any assistance, just give a yell, many here can and will give you a hand.

So, do you have a cruise booked? If not, I'd also suggest you more on that too, life is too short, get out there!
Here is the :message boards tricks link:

If you look at the bottom of this screen you'll see a link to Message Board Tricks. Click on this then click on the image library and you'll find a bunch of cool images. Find one you like and Right click on the image. Select properties, and in the window you'll find the URL. It'll be something beginning with http://. Highlight this URL and Right click on the mouse and then select "copy."

Now you have that image's web address saved. To put it into your message type in
[ img ], then paste that URL you saved, then end it with [ /img ] and you're done. I have put a space between the bracket and the characters above because if I didn't it wouldn't show because this is code that there is an image. But you should type in [ img ] and [ /img ] with no spaces. Good luck.

Re: Re: Those Neat Moving Characters

I replied to you earlier, but don't see the reply posted, so I'm doing it again. If it's redundent, my apologies.

Thanks for the info on the moving .gifs. I would have liked to have used them other than on these boards, but such is life.

We don't have a cruise booked at this time. Based on stuff needing to be done around the house, looks like 2004 will be when we can get out again. Believe me, the info on these boards has been and will continue to be extremely helpful in determining what we do. Early favorites however seem to be Galaxy out of Baltimore, or Millenium out of Fort Lauderdale. Our last cruise was on Century (Feb 2000, Western Carib.) and we absolutely loved it.

In the meantime, I'll be reading these boards and absorbing the info so that when we go we'll make the right choice.

Thanks again for your help.

Re: Re: Those Neat Moving Characters

I replied earlier but apparently it didn't post....looks like I'm out of my depth if I don't have a keypunch !

Thanks for your reply. Donna also replied and indicated that the .gifs can't be used other than on these boards. Oh, well.

I'll try and use one if I post again. In the menatime, I'll keep reading...lot's of good stuff not only about cruising....

Thanks again,

Re: Re: Re: Those Neat Moving Characters
Hi Sid,
At last you have something to look forward to in 2004, hope it all works out. We did our first Celebrity cruise to Alaska this summer and absolutely loved it, so you really can't go wrong with one of their ships and Millie is a big favorite to a lot of cruisers, good luck in the search for the perfect cruise. Also, don't forget to try out the "bargain finder" here at Cruisemates when you are finally ready to book, its a great tool:

In the meantime, please feel free to post and questions/comments here on the boards, someone always will be able to help you.

That site did not allow direct references. I had to copy it to another server.
