Default traveler checks

are travelers checks accepted everywhere. Will be cruising west carribean in two weeks. Are they accepted at the different ports of call for shopping aand such

yes, any major store will accept traveler's cheques, street vendors can be a different story, they all like American dollars, be aware that your change will be in local currency, so its almost better to charge any major purchase or have exact change.Mark H wrote:

You can always cash traveler's checks on board the ship. Then you can have lots of small bills for those purchases that require smaller denominations of U.S. cash.

Chuck is correct that the Pursers Office will cash TC's but be advised that some places on land will not. I have seen a number of places who will happily take a Visa or even a Master Card but will not accept Travelers Checks. I can only guess that there may have been problems with checks that are no good or are claimed to be stolen. My personal suggestion is to use plastic and for the small purchases use cash that you either take with you or safer, obtain from the Purser Office.

Hi Mark,
I've always brought along travelers checks and have never had a problem using them. You can even cash them onboard at the purcers desk.
