Default Airline Baggage Limits New

I'm reading some airlines have now restricted their luggage to 50 lbs per bag instead of the 70 lbs before. They will charge $25 per bag if over 50 and $50 if over 70lbs. I just bought new 30" luggage and each piece weighs 17 lbs empty! Anybody have any input on this?

I always take one large bag, but now I may have to take 2 smaller ones so it seems the airlines are only increasing the # of bags they must now handle. Duh!

Comments please................

I'd check the particular airline. On Southwest a few weeks ago, it was 70 pounds each for 3 checked bags and total measurements of 62" (height plus width plus depth).
