Default Food on the islands

Hi everyone,

Im concerned about the food in other countries. primarily Cozumel, Grand Caymen and Ocho Rios. May sound silly but is it safe to eat? Has there been any complaints about any illnesses related to the food or water. I have heard for many years "When in Mexico, DONT drink the water". Should we be concerned?

Thanks

It's hard to make a blanket statement that you can or can't eat on the islands you listed since it really depends on WHERE you choose to eat in those places. As a rule, I'd be careful in Cozumel and Ocho Rios; but less concerned in Grand Caymen. That having been said, stick to places recommended in reliable tour books and places recommended by the ship and you should have no problem. When in doubt, eat only on the ship. Enjoy your cruise!

Even in Cozumel all the established places are fine to eat in and use clean water. The only thing you should be concerned with is would be the street vendors. We stayed in the PdC/Cozumel area for over a week once and ate everywhere and had no problems. I also took precautions and took a dose of PB daily starting a few days before going and up to a few days afterwards and no problem. we have also eaten in Coz and Ocho with no problems while visiting on a cruise ship. Cozumel is definately not your typical Mexican border town, much nicer and cleaner.

Thanks to all.
I could breathe... uh.... I mean eat a lot easier now.

Jim,
I assume that PB stands for Peptol Bismol (not sure how to spell it),
if so are the tablets just as effective as the liquid?

Jiol,
You assume correctly. <G> The pills should but I preferred the regular liquid in the hopes that it coated my stomach better.
