Default What to do in Ft. Lauderdale before evening flight?

Help! We are taking a cruise this spring that leaves from Ft. L. We have a lot of time to kill from when we disembark to early evening when our flight leaves?? Any suggestions on what to do?? Don't want to lug our bags around with us.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
Betsy

Well, here's one idea if you will be renting a car. (Sometimes you get some really cheap, one day rates over the net and you can picked up at the pier and taken directly to the rental place in their van - no chg. Or call the 800 # of any popular rental place. There also is no drop off fee, if , say, you p/up in Miami and drop off at the FLL airport or vice versa. We've rented for like $25/day before!)
We like to go to a beach. A good one is at the east end of Commercial Blvd. (I-95 and east on Commercial a few miles to the beach) - all north of downtown FLL. There are some good restaurants ON the beach at Commercial and near it for lunch, etc. Freshwater, outdoor showers , like at most FL public beaches, are up near the st. You can put your luggage in your trunk. Wear your suit off the ship under a cover up and keep handy the clothing you want to change into. (You can get a plastic bag to keep them dry and clean, and then to put wet suits and towels into and seal up on your trip home. It's easy to put this in an outer luggage pocket if you have one.) If necessary, you can even change at the airport or in a public restroom. There are many other beaches in the area - like the main FLL public beach you can find on any map - like down around the Sheraton Yankee Trader, etc. The one I mention is just a favorite of our's. We have relatives in the area and we often go down before our cruises and hit the same beach in the afternoon for lunch or to get a start on our tans. Some tips: You can generally buy beach chairs in the souvenier stores in the area. There are snorkeling rental places as well. (There is actually a reef withing swimming distance off of this beach w/many more brightly colored fish than you'd expect, but you must have a dive flag or something to be out there. The dive/snorkel rental shops have these.) You can also buy things like beach mats to lie down on if you have the extra money and don't mind ditching them when you're done. Nice for naps! But just make sure you allow enough time to get to the airport and turn in your car. Hope this helps!
