Last-minute cruising
We will be booking within two weeks of sailing, so most likely we won't have any docs. It's for the Carnival Fantasy on May 8. What happens when you show up at the pier with no docs?
I know when we sailed out of Port Everglades we had to show our docs to a security guard in order to be allowed to enter the port area. I don't think the same is true of Port Canaveral, but what do we do if it is?
Cheers,
Michelle B.

Re: Last-minute cruising
With the level of threat lowered I think it has relaxed somewhat. Have your ID out and tell them that your documents are at the check-in and they are welcome to look you names up on any manifest they may have. Even when the treat level was at it's high point we were waved through at the port but did have to show the docs and ID at the porter for our bags. We had them because our friends had picked them up for us but we won't have anything next week when we go until we get to the deck.

Re: Last-minute cruising
Michelle, you're not booked yet on the Fantasy??? You've had that clock up for a while.

Michelle couldn't they fax you something to suffice until you reach the check in?

Re: Last-minute cruising
Nope, haven't booked yet because I'm closing on my house on Friday and don't want any big charges showing up on my credit. It's a sure thing, though.
Thanks for the suggestions. Denise, I'll ask about that when I book.
How do you check in without docs?
Cheers,
Michelle B.

Re: Last-minute cruising
Port Canaveral requires you to show docs, at least at the RCI pier they did. I would have Carnivore fax you something.

Re: Re: Last-minute cruising
It won't show up before your closing. But doesn't matter now. Anyway, I just checked on buycruises.com and their price for a 6A is $259 pp for an oceanview. Great deal.
We're booked on the June 15, 4-day cruise and got the same category for $372 pp. Quiet a bit higher unfortunately, but still a good price at less than $100 per day.

Thomas

Re: Last-minute cruising
Yup, definitely a great deal, that's why we're going!
Marc, was that a Freudian slip or a purposeful typo?
Okay, when I book I'll have them fax something. Thanks for the info.

Re: Last-minute cruising
It's been a year and a half but we sailed from Port Canaveral with my folks who booked 3 days prior. They went up to the Carnival desk and retrieved their docs. No problems or questions whatsoever. It's not like this is an unusual occurence so hopefully that has not changed in the meantime.
BTW, congrats on the house! Happy sailing.

Re: Last-minute cruising
When you get to the check-in counter just inform the agent that you are "pier pick-up". Make sure you have your necessary proof of citizenship documents handy.
Also, when you arrive at the pier, the porters should have a passenger list so you can go ahead and check your luggage.
Have a great cruise and congrats on the upcoming wedding!

Re: Last-minute cruising
On my last cruise I didn't get my cabin assignment until arriving at the pier. The skycaps had a manifest and they gave me my cabin assignment. It was then that I filled out my bag tag and wrote the cabin number in.
