Though we used to live in FL, whose tropical weather is similar, I need someone to refresh my memory on just how stormy and rainy the month of Nov. is (esp. early Nov.) in the caribbean. Esp. the southern caribbean. I recall Sept. having LOTS of rain, Oct. generally less, and Nov. even less. Been seeing a few comments about people cruising w/severe storm and hurricane experiences that seem to take place in Nov. Whaddaya think? Which month has the worst cruise weather?
Further to your question, I've read that the normal Atlantic/Caribbean hurricane season does not reach into the So. Carib below about 15 degrees N. Latitude. Places like Aruba, Martinique, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, etc. are never hit by the storms that devastate Cuba, Puerto Rico, Hispanola, USVI, etc. Can anyone verify this? I'm not sure where this so-called Hurricane Belt is located, but I believe that it's around 15 N.Lat. By the way, these Floridians are cruising in early November without fear of stormy distractions.
The height of the hurricane season is generally August and September. I'm booked for late October (the Panamaniacs cruise) and have travelled at that time in the past. October and November tend to be great months weatherwise in Florida.
I cruise the Emerald Princess, Eastern Caribbean on April 16, 2012
Hey, thanks a BUNCH to those of you who wrote. Don't know why I'm so skitzy about this Nov. cruise. Just not used to feeling the need to visit the tropics at that time of year. My main desire is to visit St. Lucia and Barbados in SUNSHINE (been to the other stops) and I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
mlbcruiser...I live in Miami so I'm well aware of hurricane season (I even went through Hurricane Andrew). August and September is the height of hurricane season, but you never know with hurricanes, the season decreases by November. I do not cruise during hurricane season July, Aug, Sept and Oct only because I need to be home to hold down the fort!
As far as the rain goes, you never know. I've seen it raining on one side of the street and other side is sunny. You can't predict rain in the Caribbean. But in Florida we are now in our rainy season till about July.
I have cruised in early November and had beautiful weather in the Western Caribbean and love December because the weather is great and prices are good, especially the week before Xmas. I also cruise in May to the Caribbean, have found great weather at that time also.
Next cruise: 12/12/03 10-Day Celebrity Summit Southern Caribbean
