Default passport vs birth certificate/id

Read a number of post regarding passports/birthcertificates, id's, etc. My husband and I will be traveling 9/18/03 sovereign of seas..... It's about 3 weeks away....Is it possible to obtain one in such a short period of time?

Yes but get photos done tomorrow, file at the post office and pay for faster service. You'll be fine.

Is this something recently instituted Mike? When I got my passport 6 years ago I brought my birth certificate to the county courthouse and the clerk just wrote down the information from my BC onto the passport application, then handed back the BC.

Regards,
Thomas

I think Thomas is right. I don't believe you need to leave the birth certificate with them when you apply in person. I think you just show it to them, they note that you did, and that's it.

You must, of course, apply in person if it's your first passport.

We were required to send in our original; birth certificates with ouor application as well. The only thing the clerk looked at and took information from was our Drivers license. Everything wlse they kept and was sent off. Like Mike I am very much pro Passport but quite honestly I would wait and apply for it as soon as you get back and this time use to BC and photo ID.
