I have always taken it..thank goodness so far never had to use it..but we just feel more comfortable knowing it is there. Just a personal choice i suppose. Have fun. Going on the Cost Mediterranea November 30 and can hardly wait!

I too take travel insurance out, you just never know when something happens and you can't go, at least you won't loose all your money, its the smart thing to do. There is also the added insurance that if something should happen while on the cruise and you need to be air lifted, your regular insurance doesn't cover that and it can amount to thousands of dollars. Then there is the lost or missing luggage, that also will be covered. Its actually a small price to pay to have piece of mind and not have to worry about these kinds of things that may happen or may not.

I would advise you to get the insurance, if you don't I would advise to take $40,000.00 in cash along as it could cost that much in the event someone in you party had a medical emergency and needed to medi-vaced from the ship or from a port of call.

I agree about the insurance. I had unexpected and urgent gall bladder surgery last year, and can't imagine what would have happened if I had been on a cruise at the time.

Only advice I have about insurance.. besides being sure you get it... is don't buy the cruise line's insurance. In most cases the coverage is not as good as independant insurers, and more costly.

We've used TravelGuard, ASA... and most recently are happy with pricing and coverage from Travelex.

I had a cousin that was scheduled for a cruise in Jan 03. NO insurance party of 7. She developed breast cancer 5 weeks before the trip. She didn't want her family to miss out. They would have lost alot of money and they weren't going w/o her. Short story two surgeries and the doctor released her three day before the trip. She had another surgery after trip. Too scary. I have chosen to get the insurance.

If you can afford to lose tens of thousands of dollars, then don't take the insurance. I for one, cannot afford that, so I do buy insurance. I cannot afford the tens of thousands of dollars in case I have to be med evaced from a ship or island. I cannot afford to lose the thousands in cruise, air and hotel fares, etc.
