Default spirit in san diego/fires

Don't know if anyone can help but...here goes...my husband and I are leaving Houston Wednesday night on Amtrak and going first to Los Angeles and then catching another train to San Diego. We arrive there on Friday. I don't fly and this was the best way to get to San Diego. By the way, we are taking the Spirit through the Panama Canal and ending up in Miami. After looking at the news channels on TV, my concern grew when it looked like amtrak service may be disrupted. I called Amtrak this morning but the girl I spoke with acted like she could care less about my question. She said the trains were running period. So I'm not sure what to do other than cross my fingers. Does anyone know for sure that the trains are running?? I almost hesitate to come to this board with this problem when in the scheme of things a cruise is trivial compared to the death and destruction this fire has caused. My heart does go out to all the victims of this tragedy and know that I have said a prayer for all of you.

Hi there,
I went out to Amtrak's web site and there is nothing there about the train service being disrupted. I went on Amtrak from San Diego to LA and for the most part you travel right by the coast. You do go inland when you get closer to LA, and I'm not sure that the fires are in that area. I have watched the news and nothing has been said about the train service...so far.
Enjoy your cruise and try not to worry to much about the Amtrak service. I'm sure they would find a alternate way to get you to San Diego.

I live in San Diego and so far the fires here have not interrupted the Amtrak schedules. There are no fires currently close to the railines. You should not have any problems.
