Default Land Tours in Alaska

A group of us are looking into cruising to Alaska this summer.

I'm anxious to hear where you would recommend and why.

I'm not hearing great things about Denali Park.

Thanks, Kathy

We took Alaska Cruise in July 2003 with land tour on Princess Dawn. We started from Fairbanks. There they took us on Riverboat ride which was a very nice experience. Then We got on Mid Night Sun Express Train to Denali. The train ride is spectacular. At Denali they took us inside the Park, which is very huge. You can only go to certain areas of the park which is very small because rest in protected area for wildlife. You may see bears, mountain goats and other wild life. But chances are very slim. When we went there it was hot and animals generally do not like to come out in warm weather. The park itself is very beautiful with lots of natural sites and snow capped mountains. From there we went to Mt. McKinley by bus. Pricess has a lodge there we stayed there two nights and if you are luck y enough like us you will see Mt. McKinley and it is a sight to remember. There are other things you can do there like rafting or taking a plane ride to Glaciers. Then we went to Anchorage and from ther to Seward to board our ship by bus. While you going through these area the natural sights and just breathtaking and you go through number one scenic highway in US.

Celebrity has an excursion to Banff, Calgary, which includes Lake Louise and the Banff Springs. I haven't done this tour with Celebrity but have been to Banff and it is beautiful, especially Lake Louise. Celebrity's new brochures for 2004 has all the excurions, add ons for the Alaska cruises.

When I do this cruise to Alaska, I am going to add this to my cruise. I don't think I would do Denali. I heard it's a long train ride just to look at some bears and eagles.
