My house rocks back and forth even though i know it isnt. i am dizzy and still feel like i am on the ship. it comes and goes. How long does this last? it is worrying me. can anyone help me or explain this? i feel really sea sick.

Oh Richelle,

I know how you feel! After our first cruise I was so sick the first day back I couldn't even get out of bed. I was okay after that though. I was expecting the same thing after our last cruise so I planned for it and made sure I had that first day back off from work but it was totally different. It went on for days and days. I would feel like I was constantly swaying back and forth. All in all I think it was a good week and a half before it went away totally. It sure can make you feel queasy, huh? I guess its a small price to pay for a great week though!

I think this is fairly common - I know I had it for about one week after! It does go away though. Don't worry - it will pass. I found it rather funny becasue all of a sudden, I'd grab onto something as if I was moving and I was just sitting still!!

It lasts about a week, as the others have said. Then PCD sets in and it lasts until you are walking that gangplank again. Good luck.

Thomas

My wife and I get this - sometimes really severely. We call it 'dock rock'. We actually rather like the sensation - it's as if our cruise is extended and we feel as if we are still at sea!!!!! (we don't feel sick though)

Last time we had it we flew back home and in the arrival airport we could hardly stand up. My wife actually span around and nearly fell over!!! People probably thought we were drunk or something.

Lying in bed - you want to hold on to something - and then we pray that it carries on as it makes us think we're in our cabin drifting off to sleep and wake up to another day at sea.

Trying to get through doorways can be a problem though. You have to make a few attempts to get it right!!!! lol

Richelle, I get this every time ... just try taking a Bonine or use the patch and it will go away. I never suffer for days like others, because I do this every time.

I had it bad for a week and mild for about a week after, no sickness, just really dizzy. I did research on the web and there is actually a medical term for this - mal de debarkment. In rare instances it can last a few months to a year, but in most cases it's a few days to a few weeks. I actually found not sitting still helped, the more I moved the better I felt.

My wife had the same problem on only one cruise. After about a week she went to the Doc, She found out it was a ear infection.

FYI

Dorothy, don't worry ... just take a Bonine the day you disembark the ship -- works every time with me.

Dorothy,

Really, like Harry said...don't worry. We had a five hour drive home after our cruise and it was fine. The funny thing is, when we were moving in the car, we didn't get sick or have that swaying feeling at all. It was only when we actually had our feet on the ground, trying to walk. Sitting and laying down I felt fine.

Melanie

Dorothy, don't worry. It's never happened to us and we will be driving about 2.5 hours after we get off the ship.

The last Fantasy trip we took on the return drive home around Daytona I felt a bit tilted to one side. So I pulled off the road at the Daytona Speedway exit and pulled into the track to investigate. Once I saw the gates open to the speedway I drove the Honda Civic onto the racetrack and did a few laps at 120 m.p.h. before the security staff put a road block out to stop me. Boy did that cure my "queasiness."

Nah, not really. They stopped me before I got onto the track, but I did make it into the tunnel. Bribing the guard didn't help either. <wink>

Regards,
Thomas

I ususally get this sensation for a day or two, but only if I'm in a relatively small enclosed space, e.g., a bathroom.

After many cruises we have never had this problem. I think it is all in your mind. Maybe.
Anyway you should ask the Doctor. Probably inner ear is messing up.

In the movie, "Water World," the mutant described it as "It [the land] doesn't move right."
My wife has reported that she gets the same feeling after a cruise but I've never noticed it, probably because I'm too busy driving and using farfield focus. But my wife only cruises by benefit of Transderm.

I suspect that seasickness prone people may also be susceptble to subsequent "land sickness." It's all between the ear and eye, after all.

Thomas you crack me up! Mrs. Thomas has her hands full with you, I'll bet!

Okay Melanie - I'm going to tell my son he has to *carry* me to the car! I just won't walk for a few days. He's so thrilled to be bigger and taller than I am he'll probably do it!

Harry, I decided against getting the patch, but have a little container of Bonine ready, just in case!

8 more days.......

dorothy

I agree with Bonine, and it doesn't make me sleepy like Draminine.

You'll be fine!!!

Don't worry about this too much. I didn't notice it until I was walking around a store a few hours later. Then, all of sudden, you go "whoa" and grab on to something. It's actually kind of funny. I'm sure you'll all be fine.

I too get this, but on the last cruise, it actually kicked in at the last island, Cozumel. I was in one of the shops and literallyu had to grab the wall because I almsot fell in to it. When i got home, it wasn'T that bad. I kind of like it actually, because it reminds me that I was just on a cruise. A co-worker of mine didn't like it at all once she got home though.
