Air Freshener/smoking

Dear Staff,
There is a big smoking debate going on over on the CCL boards. I felt you would be the best to answer my question. Should I packs some kind of room freshener? We don't smoke and I'm not going to let is bother my trip. But I would really rather not have my clothes smell?

Honetly, I have never had a problem with smokey smell in a cabin. They use very good deoderizers.

However, I do always pack a can of air freshener in my suitcase ... mainly just to give the cabin a fresh smell (especially if it's one without a balcony). The other thing I do is usually pack a half-can and just toss it at the end of the cruise.

I've also packed one of those wrinkle-releasers, which is a great way to freshen up a shirt or something.

Hope that helps.

We usually take one of the "plug in" type air fresheners, and these work very well.

I always bring can of air freshner no matter where I go...cruise or hotel.

My husband thinks it's because of him.....but I like to feel right at home.

PS: The Downey Wrinkle Releaser is the best, especially when used with the hair dryer.

I'm with you Cathy -- I always treat our cabin like our home away from home.

Re: Air Freshener/smoking

For hotels, I usually bring a travel candle holder (metal, holds a tealight candle and has a lid - sold at Pottery Barn and such). Then I can light a nicely scented candle beside my bed and freshen the air. But I assume the use of candles is frowned on for cruise ships.

I hope our room isn't booked the weeks prior to our trip by heavy smokers. It is a RCI Explorer of the Seas Promendade View room, which means there will not be an balcony or window we can leave open to air out if previous smoke is a problem. I have asthma, so this could be a big concern if the room is very bad, and we really hadn't expected a problem like this when we booked three Promenade rooms.

Jeesh, I hate smoking - I wish the government would ban it everywhere, and I mean everywhere, except one's own home and one's own car, period!!! It shouldn't be legal to impose one's cancer-causing, allergy-triggering, asthma-attack inducing, dirty, foul-smelling personal addictive habit onto other people.

Ummm, Deb, as a smoker, I'll avoid saying anything about your last comment and will focus more on your concern.

The cabin staff uses a very strong deoderizer on the carpets, etc in a room that still smells of smoke. I've never had a problem at all of entering a cabin that smells smokey. If you should happen to notice a smell, just ask the cabin steward to have the carpets cleaned again, and they will usually be able to do so within one day, from what I've read.

Re: Air Freshener/smoking

I have a question or comment, no I am not a smoker, don't like anything about eating or wearing smoke. BUT, I will be in an environment for all people, smoker, non-smoker, drinkers, non-drinker, etc. I will deal with it. It is everyone's vacation, right! But why is a person allowed to smoke in their cabin and we cannot have an iron??? Most irons have auto shut off. A cigarette does not. I realize the safey issue but safety should be obeyed by all. If I have a iron confiscated why shouldn't they ban smoking in an inside not ventalated room. Bottom line. If they can have smoking in the cabins I should get to have my iron.
