Default Internet Access

I just found out my online course has a quiz during the week we will be on the Victory. Can't get the date changed and don't want to drop the class. I know it's going to cost me big bucks, but it's a 10 question, multiplechoice quiz on children's lit, the 4th in the course, so I should be able to work thru it pretty quickly. I wil also have plenty of knowledgeable help with me. How crowded is the cafe, I read they only have 10 computers, I don't want to spend the whole week waiting in line to get online. And the price is? Do I have to buy a package or can I just buy the minutes I need?

Tina,

A couple options, and you will be able to get over this hurdle in no time.

First, on Royal Caribbean it runs 50 cents a minute ... never any lines (and we have sailed Carnival Spirit, too).

I think you can buy time and get a discount.

But, best option, in port, Internet Cafes are mega-cheap. We were just in Ensenada and spent $1.50 for an hour (about the going rate in mexico). So perhaps you could just plan to do the exam in port?

Harry

If you can bring a laptop or borrow one on board, you can possibly download the test and work on it offline, then upload when you're ready to submit the result. I do that for email so I don't have to burn a lot of time online.

do you know if there are any cheap internet cafes in Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St.John, St.Lucia or Labadee??? The kids at home will be anxious to get e-mails from mom and dad while away. If so, where are they located?

Yep, I'm going to St. Thomas, San Juan, and St. Maarten on Carnival Victory. I thought I read somewhere that it was $75 for 100 minutes, will shop around somewhat, but need to have it done by the end of the week. I can go on and retake it as many times as I want to during that week, but by Saturday it's gone. Thanks for the info!

TinaJ: as the others have said, the internet cafes in port are much cheaper. I'm sure there are a couple at the port in St. Thomas and San Juan. Good luck.

Tina...

St Thomas and St Martin both have Internet cafes that cost about $4.00 per hour. Just look for the signs on the main streets (look for the words "Internet Cafe" and/or "calling station").

I bet you can locate one within 5 minutes of arrival in both ports. Sometimes you have to wait in line, though, as much as an hour.

San Juan also has one downtown, but it gets crowded with crew people. Concerning that, early in the day is the least crowded time, don't wait until the last minute.
