appropriate clothing

My family will on the Norwegian Star sailing to Alaska the latter part of July '04. I was wondering about the appropriate clothing for the ship on onshore. Should it be light winter, heavy winter, etc??? Information would be helpful.

Also remember that Alaska's temps in the summer can be really unpredictable. We bundled up for the ice berg sightings where temps were in the low 40's to shorts and t-shirts on shore with temps in the 80's, all in one day!.
