Default Snorkeling Equipment

Going on 7 night W. Caribbean on Radiance of Sea with RCCL on April 4th. Stopping at
Fla Keys, Cozumel, Roatan and Belize. Family of four. We plan on snorkeling
everywhere except Florida and am wondering if I should take affordable snorkel sets
from US. Divers ($30 a set) or rent equipment at these locations. Does anyone know
how much they charge at these locations, quality of gear, etc? I would probably only pack two sets of equipment to save room.

Thanks

I bought my own. That way you insure a good fit, and you know who has had their mouth on the snorkel.

I would purchase your own, for about the same price to rent the gear you can purchase your own new. If you do decide to rent, rent your gear from the ship for the entire week - better gear on the ship ( about $25 for 5 days)

when you rent snorkel equiptment from the ship can you rent each peice individually? we have our own equiptment but it's too much to pack the fins so we want to bring just the masks and snorkels (we know who's mouths they have been in). in other words we just want to rent the fins, is this possible or do we have to pay for the whole package?

We're bringing our own equipment (4 sets, fins and all) as we love to snorkel wherever we go and we're tired of waiting in lines and then getting equipment that is either broken or ill-fitting or just nasty looking. We know our flippers will fit, our goggles won't leak and our mouthpieces are our own. I don't find packing 4 sets to be a problem.

We also took our own (bought at the local dive shop) which helped cause we knew they fit snug and we knew who's mouth they were in....I saw the snorkel sets on the stingray sandbar trip and they were all piled in one huge box. I just hope they sanitize them.

blt - we got ours at Sports Authority - they had a number of different ones to chose from. Our sets did not include fins which was fine with me because they are so large I figure I can rent them if I feel that I need them. I hope this helps!

I got mine at WalMart. Under $25, made by US Divers. Target had them as well, at about $30. I've tried mine on, they fit good. Should have seen me walking around the house with the entire ensemble on. Scared the dickens out of the dog!

Got our sets at Costco. $37.00 (but I saved $12.00 each with a coupn in March). I too have tried it on and walked around the house. The teenagers thought I was crazy!

To check the fit of your mask, try this: Brush all hair away from face. Hold mask in place on face and inhale through your nose. Lean over while holding your breath and see if if stays in place or falls off.

Be sure to rinse all of your gear off with fresh water after snorkeling in salt water as soon as possible. Your gear will last longer.
