Default early disembarkation

I'm interested in disembarking in LeHavre one day before the end of my cruise to explore Paris for a few days. Cruise ends in Dover (London) the following day. Cruise line said I can't do this because of Jones Act. I checked the Jones Act and that only has to do with US ports...not cruises between two foreign ports. Why can't I leave the ship early if I so choose. Can they hold me against my will? What happens if I had an emergency.
