Just booked first through Skyauction, but I'd do the homework and really know the prices. Figure out the rooms you are booking and flights. We got I think a ridiculously low price, but will only know later.

No ONE agency can claim to have the best prices, deal, etc all the time. If they did then there would soon only be that one agnecy. <G> There are tons of great agencies and agents that are willing to work for you, you just have to find one that YOU like and feel is giving you a good deal, (and lowest price is not always the best price). Those that advertise in out shopping area we know to be reputable and can legally sell in all 50 states which a number of agents cannot do. There are a number that don't advertyise with us that are also equally good. My recommendation is to go to the cruiseline website and see what they are selling the cruise for to the public. That gives you a base line. Then check with agents that you see advertise and that you have heard good things about and see what they are willing to sell it to you for. Their prices can be anywhere up to 15% off the cruiseline price. They do this by sharing part of their commission with you and/or any group discount they get. Do not pay any more than what the cruiseline sells it for. As for some of these "auctions" and deep discounted sites, make sure you can talk to an agent via telephone and that you are aware of ALL charges including fees, taxes, port charges, etc.

I checked off your site, then went to another site where they send updates (won't use names). I got ours at 80% off the brochure rate. Of course I may be in the worst room, but will call cruise line to see if I can get room #. Also I have been doing a fair bit of legwork. At the price we're paying at worst I'll learn some tricks for the next vacation.

Main worries are seasickness & weather.

Of course nobody can help with the weather issue, but solve the seasick issue by buying some Bonine. Lots of people recommend taking it starting the day before the cruise. We didn't and only had to take one pill (they last 24 hours) once because of some uncommonly high seas.

Look at the top of page at the red bar. Click on ship reviews and then readers reviews. You can read the reviews of your ship.

I got to agree with Jim I went through ********because they offered pre paid tips with the cruise I booked I checked one other internet site and the price is the same. I don't know about you but I don't have the time to spend calling 8 different travel agencies in town and looking up 5 different internet sites. I am sure travelocity won't have the best price EVERY time but it will be close, and I won't spend alot of time looking.

I always use ********** for all my cruising. They beat every price I have ever found, even local TA's can't match their prices!

Sorry I beat ***********, though their price is good and a lot of interesting stuff.

What I don't get is insurance. Why do people get it? Health insurance yes, but travel is something else. Arriving the night before so should be safe there and adding a day upon return.

Insurance is NOT for just medical....Travel insurance covers loss of luggage, delay of trip, bankruptcy of cruiseline, unemployment and you can't go, death of a family member or sickness where you can't go, car accident on the way to the ship and you don't make it, on and on.....I paid $87 for the 2 of us for our travel insurance for our Feb cruise and I'd much rather pay that upfront then have to eat that total cruise cost! And just imagine NOT getting your luggage. You would have to purchase new clothes, etc...and then you'd be out that money. At least with the insurance you can be reimbursed up to a certain amount.

Without travel insurance you wouldn't get that money back you paid out. You can never know what will happen in the future so it's best to be safe then sorry.

My bil just missed a cruise (found out at literally the last minute that his father was very ill and hospitalized for open heart surgery). They lost a big old chunk of money!

I always thought insurance was for "other" people, but his situation has made me think twice.

I bought it once and did use it when my spouses Grandfather was dying. Otherwise I find the price very high. Trust me, I'm in the insurance business. Yes things can happen but I find that insurance is about 10% (of the bagain price) I am paying and with those odds I'll go to the casino (knock on wood).

Hmm...87.00 isn't high to me when I shelled out 2k for a cruise! I'd much rather get that 2k back if I need to then to lose it because I thought it "won't happen to me."
But I'm not a gambling girl either and the casinos are a waste of money to me! I go on a cruise not to gamble but to enjoy the different ports and see the world!

The cost of a medical evacuation can run into the HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars. Insuring you don't have to pay that is not a gamble, it's a MUST.. IMHO!

I agree that no one agency either in one's hometown or on the Internet has the "corner on the market" for good priced cruises. I think you do have to shop around a bit. I do think that you get the best service from businesses that are cruise specialists too since they are the most familar with the "product". You do need to be really careful of any add-ins to and know the going rate for things like hotels, airfare, etc. When I was booking my upcoming Alaska cruise, I found one of the general travel booking sites that had a great price on the cruise and had begun to book. Just before I hit the "Purchase" button, a message came up telling me that I was required to book a hotel room to book the cruise at the low rate. I looked at the price of the hotels and they were really HIGH so I clicked cancel and booked with an internet cruise specialist site that I had used in the past...and got my insurance for just $1 as a bonus. Total cost turned out to be a lot less than what I would have gotten if I had booked with the general travel site Incidentally, I am a firm believer in cruise insurance. Too many things can happen between the time that you book and the time that you cruise, If I want to gamble, I would rather do it in the casino on the ship.
