OK guys, I need some opinions here. I've been on one cruise - Carnival Paradise Sept. 03. Loved it!! Loved being able to go into casino and have a drink in the disco without smoke -I have severe allergies and get a headache right away (Please, let's not turn this into a smoking/non-smoking debate). I havent' been able to afford another vacation this year, but I might next year. Of course, next year, the Paradise will be gone. Are there any other ships that are non-smoking like that? I don't think there are any that are totally non-smoking, but how about totally smoke free dining rooms, at least one bar, and at least some of the rooms (I don't dare hope for a portion of the casino to be smoke-free)? I can live with people smoking outside or in their own rooms, but I'm really worried about the common areas. I've thought about a land based vacation, but not sure if most hotels in the caribbean are any better. I'd really like to hear from all you cruise experts out there. Does anyone have any suggestions where I could still enjoy myself but not be constantly exposed to so much smoke? Even if there's a land based resort you went to that was quite smoke-free, I'd love to hear. I'd love to be able to take another cruise, but I've heard that smoke can be quite a problem. Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks.
CCL is still a great option here.....the dining areas, show lounge, some of the bars and half the ship up on deck are nonsmoking, and the ventilation systems on the newer ones are very good. The cabins are all smoking but the current reports say that the smell is nonexistent....whatever they use must be really good!

Hi. I too suffer from being anywhere near cigarette smoke. I just returned from Legends of the Seas 1 week Mexico Riviera cruise on Royal Carribean. There was no problem at all. No smoking allowed in dining areas, just on one side of the ship outside on deck and in smoking areas in the bars. I had heard that Carnival does not enforce smoking policy at all, that is why I would not sail with them. I believe Princess and the other cruise lines also enforce their smoking area policies as does Royal Carribean. Take care, Anita Gross
