Default Latest to book a cruise

I was just wondering what is the latest a person can say that they want to go on a cruise. You know how you can basicalluy book an air flight the day of the plane flying, what abotu cruises.

My curiosity is peaked for this weekend and Frances. If my normal ship does not leave.. Can I go down to the docks in NYC and put myself on a cruise. Or call a day ahead of scheduled departure.

Felway:
The "official" policy since 9/11 is 72 hours. However, I have heard from a reputable person that they have booked 36 hours before departure.

Take care,
Mike

In 2002, I booked a cruise 48 hours in advance on HAl, but I'd sailed with them several times before and I'd used the same travel agent I always used. This is only a great deal if you don't have to buy a plane ticked at full fare. I did this once for an Hawaiian cruise and the plane ticket for one cost more than the entire cruise.
