I book 8-10 months in advance and have gotten some good prices. The cruise I have booked for April 2005 I booked in June 2004. Its already gone up over $200/pp. I can't help you with either of those ships as I haven't sailed on them. I sailed on Carnival Inspiration last year and had a great time.

Prior to 9/11/01 you did best by booking early and then watch others pay more as the price went up the closer it got to sailing date. Immedaitely after 9/11/01 until mid 2004 you were better off waiting until the price dropped to bare minimum close to the sailing date. Since mid 2004 the prices have returned to normal and it is now better to book early again.
As for which ship, both are appealing to basically the same type of folks. I would advise you to read some of the current reviews of these two ships and see which one seems to fit you best. Either one should be fine though.

I save more by booking a year in advance.

I booked a Millenium 7-night Eastern Caribbean a year in advance and got it for $520, as it got closer that same Cat was going for $700.

I also like to book on the ship to receive a shipboard credit and I get the cabin I want.

Cruising is very popular now and the ships are filling up, so I don't think the bargains are going to be out there.
