There are some cabins that are classified as Cat 5 between a Balcony and an outside view that have French Doors that open that has an totally obstructed view but you do have the fresh air. This is on the Spirit Class ships on CCL. Not sure about other cruiselines. Hal has the same type ship so they probably have that option as well. Understand a regular outside cabin has windows that are not capable of opening on most cruiseships. Smaller ships like coastal or river ships might.
Jim, I head from a Carnival rep that they now have sealed the French doors (I almost booked one of these at the last minute on the Pride earlier this month). She said it was because they were affecting the A/C system (the Spirit class has that auto shutoff when you open the doors).
Don't know if this is the case ... maybe someone who recently had a French door will let us know.
