Default Tipping and children

I have 2 questions
#1. i read on another cruise messgae board that it was a litle known fact that tipping 50% of the suggested tip rate was quite acceptable for children under 12. What are your thoughts?

#2 What is a suggested tip for staff in the childrens programs?

Thanks

Regarding tips for the kids, I think it would depend on what cruiseline you are sailing and their guidelines. On Carnival, it's $10 per person, per day, for anyone over the age of 2.

Regarding children's programs, the staff is salaried so tipping is optional and up to you, depending on how much your kids used the service. I've heard anywhere from $0 to $10 per day.

I believe Celebrity only requests the 50% gratuity for children under 12 and Carnival is the full amount. My opinion since you asked .... You should tip the full amount for the children. They have been known no make more of a mess than the adults. Plus, the crew works hard for their money and I dont feel it is right for them to only get 50% for children. They are still passangers that they are cleaning up after.

As for the program, it depends on how many staff members are entertaining my son and how much fun he had. I usually give about $5 only because tips are not expected. Its a little thank you. Of course, I have heard of people giving huge tips to the staff. It really all depends.

I would prefer to give my tip to those in the children's programs, but as always I give the recommended tip to the usual staff and give extra, about $25, to the kid's staff.
