Yes it needs to be notorized and has to be signed in front of them. It is a definate requirement for Mexico and pretty much elsewhere now. Alwqays better safe than sorry. The letter should state the timeframe as well and right to any medical decisions. This should also be done for any underage person that is going with you on a cruise.

kp - the letter we had to sign was a form letter that came with our cruise documents, it didn't need to be notarized or anything like that, just signed and yes the agent asked for it when we checked in (this was on Princess).

If it isn't noterized basically it is not worth the paper it is written on, at least legally. What I would love to see is one of our great Cruisemates family who is an attorney write up and post a generic document that would be legal so that others here could copy and print it out. They would just have to fill in the blanks for the names etc. We might even be able to find a place on the homepage for it to be accessed. How about it folks, we have any attorneys out there that would be willing to step up?

Like Cheryl said, we had a couple of letter forms posted by or fellow cruisemates on those two boards to help everyone out.
