Default Bottled Water

Hi!
I understand that most people recommend to purchase bottled water on the cruise. I am going to Alaska next week. What is the average cost of bottled water on the ship and what size? Can you bring your own bottled water on the ship? This is my first cruise! Thanks to all!

Mostly, it's the cruise lines who recommend purchasing bottled water, because their markups are astronomical. Water out of the tap on the ship is excellent. I never drink anything else (except gin, bourbon and wine, of course).

I agree with AR, and don't buy their expensive bottled water either. I travel with a couple bottles of water and fill the empty ones up with tap water on the ship, and put them in the mini bar to cool them. That way I always have one botle of reasonable cold water to carry with me or drink in the cabin.

We have found that the water in the Windjammer Cafe on RC tastes better than the tap water from the room, don't know why. Yes you can purchase and bring your own bottled water on board. Bottled water on the ship is, I think, $2.50 plus that all important automatic 15% bar tip.

Also try taking along Crystal Light to Go packets. I buy them at my grocery store. They come in boxes of ten little individual packs of flavored crystal light. You add them to a 16.9 oz bottle of water and instantly you have lemonade. I carry a couple in my pocketbook wherever I go. The individual packets are about 2 inches long and about 1/2 inch wide, easy to travel with.

don't pay the cruise lines ridiculous prices for bottled water, do what the others have suggested, bring on a couple of bottles, re-fill them from the tap and put them in the fridge in your stateroom. Ships water is very good quality

Janice:

I have to agree with everyone else and go with the tap water. I have yet to find a ship where the tap water was not as good as bottled water. My wife has the hands of a surgeon and uses the melted ice from the ice bucket to fill a water bottle with cold water if there is no refrigerator. (Only if there is a fresh liner)

You can bring your own bottled water onboard if you want. In my opinion it isn't worth carrying it and it isn't worth buying it onboard.

Take care,
Mike

We were told to bring bottled water, and so we did. It was truely a waste of time, money and luggage space. The water on the ship was just fine, and they also sold bottled water. The good thing is we had a lot of extra space for goodies to bring home.

I contacted HA about their tap water since I have to watch my salt intake and while
they said their water was good they recommended drinking bottled water. One of
the passengers said that the water from their tap tasted very salty. it is a ridiculous price but not as bad as the distilled water which we have to have for my husband's
CPAP machine - $4 US a gallon - we buy it here in Canada for $1.70 Cdn.

Distilled water for $4 a gallon, where on earth does it cost that? Here in Tampa (I get for my iron) and it anywhere from 89-99 cents a gallon. Does the cruise ship charge you that much?

The ship's tap water IS distilled water ... and tastes great. Why spend money on something you don't need.

CruzNut - are you sure about that? the ship's water being distilled? What about
salt content? That would ruin the machine for sure. HA didn't say it was distilled, just that it was processed.
I sure would be happy to not have to buy their very expensive distilled water.

You should always run distilled water through your CPAP. The ships water has to run through the plumbing and it will pick up other deposits by the time it reaches your cabin. While it is perfectly fine for consumption it is not at the level of distilled water once it comes out of the tap.

Drink the ship's water. Use distilled water in your CPAP.

I carry two 1 liter Rubbermade bottles of distilled water in my CPAP case. These bottles can be purchased at Wal-mart for about $1. They easily fit in my CPAP case.

A CPAP is considered necessary medical equipment and is allowed as as an "additional" carry-on on an airplane as long as it fits under the seat or in the overhead.

Take care,
Mike(who has never seen $4 distilled water)

don't waste the space in your suitcase for water. This is what we do, each person has their own sports bottle that they carry-on with them, i will also throw in a couple extra empty bottles in my carry-on, fill them up in the cabin, put them in the fridge, voila!
