Our family of six, (four kids under nine) will be cruising the western carrib. in Dec 05. Because of the restrictions on ages for kids for excursions we were thinking of just beachs and swimming at all four stops, Belize, Hond,Cancun and Grand Cayman. I have been told that finding a taxi would be less expensive and maybe more flexible for us. Are their plenty of them..taxi's? And any suggestions for good kid stuff?
Rick, I think you will find this the be much easier than you think. I haven't been to that many ports, but the two i have seen, had tons of taxis. We did our own thing in Cozumel, with the kids, and went to the beach. Once you get to a beach, there are usually lots of things to do. Waverunners, snorkleing etc. My suggestion is to use the internet and go to each of your stops. Go to some place like the chamber of commerce site. They will lead you to the good family stuff. Good Luck, and if you have other questions, let one of us know, or you can e-mail me.
Just be sure to take the family to Sting Ray City in Grand Cayman, you'll all love it. YOu can do an independent excursion or just book with the cruiseline. Since you are a first time cruiser, you may want to book that with the cruiseline, mainly for the time factor and that you have to tender in Grand Cayman and the first passengers that get to tender are the ones with ship excursions. Be sure to purchase a water camera before you go, they will easily be double what you'd pay at home.
There are no beaches in Belize. You'll need to take an excursion to one of the Cayes. I would recommend Goff's Caye. The water is shallow quite a way out and its a small island (about the size of a football field).
