I was told I would have to pay 116 per person for port charges, but when I go to book my cruise, this fee is not mentioned, nor can I find any info. about it. Does this seem reasonable, and when would the cruise line collect it if I don't book with a travel agency?
Yes, that does seem about right, depends on what ports you visit. You will also have some taxes to pay as well. Some travel agents include those charges in their price, others don't, so that makes cruise shipping a bit difficult.
The term "Port Charges" is a term that has not been used for sometime by the cruiselines. They are now called "Non-Commisionalble Charges". Therefore, a missed port has no rebated fee back to the consumer. Its still a rose by another name and some agencies are still calling them port charges
