My husband and I are going on our first cruise with Royal Caribbean in Oct. Niether of us gets car sick, we can read in the car with no problem, love roller coasters, and our cabin is in the middle of the ship. I hate to buy Bonine if we aren't going to need it. Someone said that they give it away for free at the Purser's desk if you need it. Is that true? Anyone like us that did end up sick?
I am guessing you won't have a problem. I have never heard of Bonine at the Purser's Desk..I would think that kind of thing would have to be handled in the Medical office..which you will pay dearly for! Go to Wal-Mart and get the Bonine...a $5 purchase will give you peace of mind!!! Or try the seabands...even cheaper, and then only put them on if you feel you need them.
Ask the pharmacist for Meclazine; it's the generic version and even cheaper. They usually keep it in the pharmacy so most people buy what's on the shelf at a more expensive price. At Walmart, it's going to be just a few dollars. Then, you won't have to wait in the long line at the purser's desk or treck down to the medical office if you need it.
I've only seen Dramamine for free outside of the infirmary. Just buy a small package of what you need for your cruise, one in the morning for each of you. It's not that expensive and worth the price of not getting seasick!! Been there, done that on smaller scuba diving boats and any price was worth not repeating that episode!

yes u can get free bonine(a healty passanger spends more money that a sick one). but bonine will make u sleepy. Meclazine is a different drug that doenst make u as sleepy, generally the cruise lines give the bonine.
i dont wait to get the free stuff from the ship. the way to prevent sea-sickness is too take it before you board the ship!!!!! i take one on the morning of the cruise before i board, then for a couple days after that. then i dont need to take it anymore.
but getting it into your system before you step on the ship is the best way to prevent the sickness .
Meclazine is the generic drug that is put in Bonine and Less Drowsy Dramamine. It does not make you sleepy. The last time we were on a ship rough enough to give out stuff it was dramamine and it WILL make you sleepy.
Go to your pharamcist and ask for Meclazine. I got a bottle at my Publix pharmacy of 100 for $3.74. Ask ahead cause during cruising and traveling season they tend to run out of it, but can get it by the next day. Meclazine comes in chewable form and is scored if you want to break it in half. Tastes like a Bayer baby aspirin. We all took 1/2 in am, 1/2 in pm, starting a day before cruise and taking until a day after.........never experienced any seasickness or bed rocking after we got back.
As Booster said, Meclazine is the generic form of Bonine - same thing - and it will not make you sleepy. My ds tends towards a wee bit of seasickness and it has always worked for him without any side effects.
They were offering Bonine onboard, but we brought our own.

these folks make a good point! ..if you ARE sick, it will tale 2-3 hour for the "pill" to kick in. some people take one every morinig, just as a precausion. only u know how ""prone" u r to motien suckness.
I guess you can ask your doctor, but as others have posted, you can get a bottle of 100 for just a few bucks. More than you'll need, of course, but you can always share with tablemates who've forgotten theirs.
