Default passports

Hi!
I know there have been various posts on this, but I have a question about how long it takes to get a passport.
I know we have to apply in person, but once it's all turned in - how long will it take to get them in our hands?
Thanks!

We went June 21 and ours were returned to us around then end of July. They were saying it was taking anywhere from 6-8 weeks, because the demand is more now that passports will be mandatory. It could be longer now, I'm not sure. It was just about 6-7 weeks!!

They have been doing pretty good for the last couple of years in getting the passports back inside of 6 weeks and in many instances much shorter. As the number of people who apply increases the waiting time will become longer. I saw get them not before the big rush. If you are within two months of your cruise date you might want to wait until you return, otherwise, get them.

I applied for my passport the last of July, when I checked the online status a couple of weeks ago I was told I would have it around 9/11 now it says 9/4 ... so I am thinking 6 weeks is right on ...

My son and I applied for our passports Tuesday afternoon. The lady at the Post Office said she could not estimate when we would receive them as they go to New Orleans to be processed. Lucky for us (or unlucky I should say), our next cruise isn't until 6/06. I am glad we didn't wait until the last minute.

I would imagine that other processing facilities are taking over for NO. NO facility is no longer working and probably won't be for a long time, if ever.

Upon contacting the Passport Office, I was notified that at this time they could not tell me when I would be getting it ... I applied for it 07.26 ... if I do not have it by 09.23 then I must reapply ... I will only incur the cost of the pictures, I will not have to pay for the passport itself ... they will then be sure I get it for my 10.23 cruise ...

Don't worry, Candy, the federal government has decided that passports are NOT required until after Dec 2006, not 2005. The only exception that I am aware of is the Isle of Kiribati in Hawaii....(aka Fanning Island)...

Gee, I'm surprised they changed their mind...hee hee....

Kiribati and Fanning Island are NOT in Hawaii; Hawaii does not require passports since it is a US state. Kiribati, not being part of the US, does.
