Disadvantages to booking directly with cruise line?
I'm interested in cruising on the Marco Polo to South America in February 2006. I contacted the toll free number from the Orient' s website and asked about the special they had advertised in category K. The agent said the category had sold out, there were 6 on a wait list but said I could also be waitlisted if I left a name and number for them to contact. To my surprise she also quoted a lower price than was listed! What are the chances that I will get called and, if so, is it risky to buy directly from them or should I call a local travel agent instead? I have cruised twice before but not recently and there are no cruise specialists in my area of Canada.

You should be fine with them. When you go through the line itself you know what you are getting. Usually a TA can get it cheaper and maybe get you some extras but not always. You will never get taken for a ride by booking diorect anyway.
