How far it is from the airport to the pier? I'm looking at a cruise that docks at 8:00 a.m.. The only flight I can get out of LAX that day is at 1:20 p.m. Will I make it, or is time too tight? The next flight I can get is three days later so I can't book this cruise if I won't make it. Also, can anyone recommend a hotel or area close to the pier as I'll be flying in a day early.
You didn't say which pier, Long Beach or San Pedro, that you would debark from but either one would be fine. Be sure to get early debarkation luggage tags. You can take a taxi so you don't have to wait for a bus or shuttle to fill up. You might hit a little traffic but will make it to LAX in time. I live further south and can be there in 45 minutes. LAX can be hectic but once there and checked in, it goes smoothly.
Can't help you with the hotels but if you tell us which port, I'm sure someone can help.

RCL docks in San Pedro, not long beach - which will save you a couple of minutes on the ride. It is about 18 - 20 miles to the airport from the San Pedro/Long Beach area. But traffic in LA can be a real PITA. You can make a 1:20 flight, but do what Theresa said.

Thanks Teresa and Lisa. I've never cruised out of California before and am looking forward to it. I've cruised on the Sovereign of the Seas and had a great time so I'm sure I'll enjoy the Monarch too. Its a first cruise for my mother and sister and they're really excited.
