Does anyone know how much of a hold they put on your credit/dedit card for onboard purchases? Was told by someone who went on Carnival last year that it is up to you as to how much you want held. I am thinking about taking about $200-$300 in travelers checks as well for port purchases and tips. Sailing sunday on Victory.
I am not sure if I understand your question, but we have always been able to put as much on our account (backed by credit card) as we wish. I guess they would charge up to your cc limit.

We also just used our credit card, and they never asked us how much we wanted to hold on it. I took 500.00 for a 5 day, and it was way to much. Be sure to take one's and fives, for tips. Have a great trip.
When ever you use your credit/debit card the merchant has the option of putting a hold on your checking account in the amount they think they may need to cover your charges. Some gas companies have a policy of placing a $75.00 hold. This should not apply to a plain credit card.
