Default travel from london to southampton

Am going on Princess cruise out of Southampton on July 31 and will spend 2 days before in London. Princess doesn't sell transfers to the ship unless you are staying in one of their hotels, which I won't because it's too expensive or going direct from airport to ship. What's the best way to get to Southampton from London and what is the price? Also, is there a way to get to Gatwick (I'm returning to the US from there) from Southampton without having to use a Princess transfer. Princess will sell a transfer from the ship to Gatwick but its pricey $76 per person. Thanks for the info.MS

Train. While we went out of Harwich I am sure that SouthHampton has a train that goes there and will probably even have a special train as a ship is leaving and they often do just that. The train also goes to the airport.
24 cruises and counting!

We were in London June 05 for a week and then went to Southhampton for Golden Princess, We went by National Bus Co. Very, very, cheap like less than US $30. for trip there and then trip to Harwich after cruise.
The bus co is located right behind the Victoria Station. You can buy tickets and get information there, but get them before the day you want to travel as bus may be full. You have to get to the station on your own. The bus co. has a web site but I will have to hunt for it. If you want it let me know. I feel sure there would be no problem with a return to Gatwick. The bus will take you to Bus station in Southhampton and then it is like a $7 taxi ride to ship. If need more info let me know.
