New to cruising- Looking for advice on working in the office
Hi I have never been on a cruise before, and are exploring what jobs I would like to do. I like somemore information on Working in the Pursers office.
I have about 5 years accounts, dealt with staff expenses and foreign currency invoices. and have used lots of computer systems. although Ive not had a job working face to face with the public, Ive had lots of experience dealing with people over the telephone. Ive got a little bit of work experience working in a shop.
I am looking for some advice on what experience is required for the position and if my experience would be suitable. I would also like to know how many hours a day and days a week are typicaly worked, and how varied the work is? Office based? Standing? Sitting?. Do you get to move around the ship, or is the job, only based in the office? Whats the office like? What are the people like? Does it attract certain types?
Whats it like in General to be a 4th or 3rd Purser? Is this a realistic place to start?
What about the work/rest/play/of ship time balance?
Maybe someone who works on a ship can answer your questions.
