Default spa with no hard sell?

Is there any way to get a massage or facial without trying to be sold on product? I know most spas are seperate run from the ship. I sent the hubby the last time we were on a cruise for a deep tissue massage and the whole thing left him tense because they tried to sell him vitamins or oil or something.

I this time want to indulge myself and am not comfortable with having to say no to this type of thing. I just want to enjoy my vacation and relax without the hard sell.

We are sailing on the Sapphire this Sat. Any suggestions?

I have had friends tell me that they just state at the beginning of the appointment that they are not interested in any products and that seemed to work for them.

My friend said that she was very pleasant when she made the request and she said the service she received was fine. I wondered the same thing.

Well I will keep it in mind. I was thinking at least a facial would be nice and relaxing. Thanks ML for your help, its always nice to be one step ahead. Im just afraid they can smell out the newbies.

Nearly every cruise line uses Steiners and their staff practically lives on commission from sale of the products. I avoid most spas for this reason.
There are two exceptions. Radisson Seven Seas Cruises uses Carita, a famous Paris salon, and there is no hard sell, just excellent service. And, on Queen Mary 2, you'll find the very best -- Canyon Ranch! Never a hard sell, only sublime treatments and outstanding service.

This is what worked for me...maybe not everyone will be comfortable doing it but it works...

I learned about the sales speech on these boards so after my first treatment and pressured speech, I had her write down everything she thought I needed, told her I would speak to my DH and let her know. Well, I kept that paper, went home and I wrote the info on a 3X5 card and take it with me everytime I go to the spa. AFTER the treatment, don't want the quality to suffer, I show them the card and imply this is what I'm using and I have plenty, thank you...They smile and thank me. No speech!

Default JPJ.....

I also do the same thing as CA cruiser as well as once I am in the room, that I'm there only for "x" treatment and I'm not interested in buying anymore product. I get a couple of treatments every cruise and if they push the issue, I deduct the tip...

I hate to be mean but in this case "I AM PAYING" for my private treatment and any hardsell is considered infringing on my experience.

I have never had, or felt I had less of a service being straight forward. I have however increased the tip on those who abide by my wishes.
