Default A Question on airports and planes

Ok, I'm a newbie on this one. We have always drove to New Orleans and cruised But.... this time its the biggy We're fling out of Jackson, Ms. to Miami, on American Airlines. I'm all excited, and ready for my first flight.

Ok, since this is our first flight, I've printed out all the restrictions on baggage, carry-on's, checked luggage, and when to be there, and checkin process'es.
On the sheet, its said no purses, no lighters, laptops, brief cases , or notebooks,are allowed onboard.
Ok, thats fine with me, but what do you women do with your purses during the flight You can't put them in the carry-on

Once we do get off the plane, my wife will be busting to go have her a smoke . Specially, if theres any turbulance

So, please fill me in on this. Specially on the womens part

Thanks ;
David

I'd double check the restrictions. All planes I've been on allow purses, laptops, notebooks, carryons ... the only thing that you mention that's not allowed is lighters.

As far as smoking, Florida is a smoke free state - she'll have to wait until she's outside of the terminal to have her cig. That's right outside - at the taxi stand area.

Hi David,

Yes, as CruzNut suggested, double check the restrictions. The last I heard you can take a carryon and one other "thing" (a purse, a laptop, a briefcase...).

No lighters, but I believe you can now take matches. Be sure DW has some!

If your wife or you are nervous about flying (like I am! ) get the book "White Knuckles" by Layne Ridley. It's now out of print, but available on EBay and other book sites.

I'm still not thrilled about flying, but this book helped me understand what's going on!

I don't think there are any airports in the US where you can smoke unless you go outside and well away from the terminal.

Thanks Fern and Cruznut for your help. I'm going to call AA here in Jackson and double check all the restrictions.

The wife usually puts together the cruises.(When,where, and how many days) She's very organized and always has her information in order. She's more picky than me. I'm the one that don't care where we go, or how long, just let me get onboard.

The roll is reversed on this one. I booked the cruise, booked the flights, and the precruise motel stay. So, with alittle luck, all will go well 8)
Wish me luck on this one.

Happy Cruising;
David

David: I have to say your wife is a brave one...giving up control on planning the cruise, . I plan every detail of our vacations and I know I couldn't let my hubby do it....it would drive me crazy!!!! I am not saying he doesn't have the ability to do it....just saying I would hate not doing it!

MaryLou,
I think its about being in the know or in control. However, she's starting to ask questions now. Have I done this Have I done that So far, I've had all the correct answers to show her. Yes show, not tell I've printed out everything I've done. I got confirmation numbers on everything. All of our information we will need, is in a folder here on my desk.from birth certificates,motel info, to fun pass.

Theres only one thing she won't know about. Her dozen of red roses that will be in our cabin when we arrive that Sunday.

She's really a neat and organized person. Very smart ! I guess being a corporate accountant for 20 yrs. has made her that way.

I'm going to go to the airport here in town on my next day off to check out where we need to go. And to get myself familiar with it.
Wish me luck guy's

Happy sailing to all;
David

FYI - i never bring a regular purse on a cruise. You really don't need it. You are much better off with a fanny or hip pack for your basic daily essentials. I do bring a small evening bag.
I have never had a problem bringing a purse, or laptop on the airplane.
