Default Liquor

I am about to go on an Alaska cruise.

I was told by other people that took this cruise several years ago that each person is allowed to bring a small bottle of liquor or a bottle of wine with them onto to ship, so long as it is only consumed in the cabin.

Have I heard right?

Only wine. Cruiselines make a substantial profit from alcohol sales.

Only half right:

Wine can be brought on board but a corkage fee will be charged if you open it in a public area such as the dining room or a lounge.

Official policies for almost all cruise lines is that no hard liquor or beer may be brought on board at embarkation or from any port.

Take care,

the policy varies from cruise line to cruise line. Go to the FAQ's section of your cruiseline or check your brochure it will tell you.
The vast majority of lines will allow you to bring aboard a couple of bottles of wine/champagne, but liquor is a no-no.
