Default shore excursions

Contemplating booking alone on 2007 World cruise, full itinerary. Time only just became possible for me. I do not have a cabin mate unfortunately. Going alone for that length of time is already a big challenge. To pay large supplement makes it an even bigger worry.

I feel I can most probably handle the on board situation and still enjoy the trip because desire to glimpse the "world" is prime motivator. But I would not feel comfortable nor enjoy the offboard part, even in case of the pre arranged excursions. I have cruised short lengths as part of a couple and noticed that loners are not included - folks travelling together stay together - tour guides give you a lot of time alone to wander and then rejoin the group or bus as maybe. If I want to be lonely and lost I prefer to do that at home. Security and enjoyment comes from a shared experience.

Question : does the cruise line, in this case, Cunard, ever put people together before the excursions take place ? I asked them if they had someone in charge to speak to - no success yet.
Would appreciate your comments.
