Default HELP - LA hotel Advice

We are leaving from LA (San Pedro) in a few weeks, and are in desperate need of advice on a pre-cruise hotel.

We are flying into LA 2 days prior to our Hawaii cruise, and want to stay in a clean comfortable hotel walking distance from restaurants, etc. We do not plan on renting a car, so shuttles or taxis will have to be used.

Any and ALL advice is greatly appreciated!!!

I know that Cruisemates did a group cruise similar to mine, so any port recommendations, ideas is also extremely welcome! We have NEVER been anywhere over there, so it is all so new to us!!

I just returned from a cruise out of LA a couple of weeks ago. We stayed at the Coast Long Beach Hotel and it was really nice. An ocean view room with balcony was not too expensive, and the room was really cleanand the hotel well kept. It is walking distance to the Queen Mary, which the City of Long Beach turned into a hotel with lots of good restaurants on it and another real nice restaurant just down the street. The Queen Mary is now permanently docked in Long Beach, it has shopping onboard, 3 or 4 restaurants, a luxury hotel and you can take a guided tour of the ship as well. Next to it is an old Soviet submarine from the cold war they also bought and you can take a tour of that too.

Default keep in mind, LAX is NOT San Pedro...

It is a 35 min. drive from LAX down to the Long Beach cruise pier.

The SuperShuttle is $18 each way per adult from LAX to the San Pedro port.

You can also take the Metrobus:
Metrobus #225 to San Pedro Route: [leaves from] LAX Transit Center - Buses leave the LAX Transit Center Mon-Fri ~every hour 0520-1805. Weekends & Holidays every hour 0530-1830. Cost: $0.75 (disabled and seniors $0.25).

To get to that LAX transit center, you catch the LAX Shuttle Bus C.
When you collect your luggage in the airport terminal, walk out of the terminal, across the driveway, to the center island. There will be signs hanging over the island showing you where to go. There are also LAX transit employees in the island to direct you. When you get to parking lot C, there will be the bigger bus to take you to San Pedro. It's actually a pretty simple procedure and will save you a lot of money.

If you need phone numbers, here is a pretty comprehensive site:
