I would like to put an avatar in my post. I have noticed that after I have resized a picture to the correct size for the avatar it becomes somewhat fuzzy, not as clear as the original picture. I have looked at some of the other avatars, some are really clear and some are fuzzy. Is this normal. I downloaded the IrFanview that was recommended, but the pix still turns out fuzzy. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I found this one online after I posted this. It is pretty good. But I still would like to know if it is normal for a resized picture to be fuzzy.

It really depends on the resolution of the photo that you are resizing and the quality of the photo that you start with.

If it is a picture that you scanned then your chances of making a small avatar aren't too good. There are methods of improving this but they involve some advanced methods using software that is fairly complex.

The higher the resolution of the original picture, the better it looks when it is resized. This is why digital pictures are the best to use when creating avatars.

Also the more complex the photo the "worse" it looks when it is made smaller. The best photos for avatars are pictures with a single image, head shots, etc.. Group pictures, large landscapes and such do not resize well.

One other thing to note: With Irfanview, make sure you save it as: "Best Quality".

Take care,
Mike

Thanks Mike. I'll keep working with my photos. I'll eventually come up with a good one. The one I found last night is okay for a while. Thanks for your answer.
