Default keep it secret or tell the kids??

my wife and I are taking our 3 teen age boys on a RCC in August. we were thinking about making it a surprise and not tell them until that morning when we leave for the airport. now i see that teens talk about meeting here long before the cruise and that looks like a great way of making friends befreo the trip.
so the question is should we keep it a surprise or let them know in advance so they cam start making friends a bit early?
also when do you have the kids 1st sign into the teen programs?

I'd vote for telling them. With cruising I find anticipation and research of the trip is half the fun.

The first day onboard they'll tell you where the sign up is for all the kids programs. Make sure they attend, because even if they end up not going back, they'll meet other teens right off.

I wholeheartedly agree with Kuki: "With cruising I find anticipation and research of the trip is half the fun."

Besides, why stress over trying to keep a secret when you can all enjoy the planning together? It will still be a surprise when you tell them, and then you won't have that last minute packing to contend with.

I'd tell them. We've always told our kids and had them involved in the planning of the shore excursions. You'd be amazed at some of the things they want to do. We spent a great day at the Kennedy Space Center one year, which is something I hadn't even thought of.

I agree with the others. Tell them. Then they will love you now instead of later. They can make plans, tell their friends, get on the teen board, ect... Yes, the anticipation is half the fun. The countdown clocks, reading reviews, studying deck plans and photo galleries, ect... They may want to get ship shape and work on their tans, buy a new Speedo, get a haircut, stuff like that.
