Default What Cruise line for Alaska?

We are a baby boomer married couple planning an Alaskan cruise. We want to see wild life but not have it too cold. We would like a casual atmosphere, roomy cabin with a private balcony, free style dinning and a good variety of off shore activities....what cruise line would you suggest?

You basically just described NCL. There are inside passage cruises out of Seattle and Vancouver.

The balcony cabins are fairly spacious, especially on the newer ships and Freestyle dining is perfect for an Alaskan itinerary.

In regard to temperature, the only time you will probably have any issue is if you take a Glacier or Dog Sledding tour. Otherwise the temps from late May through August will be fairly moderate and clothing layers and some waterproof jackets or rain wear (yes: it could rain) will be needed.

Take care,
Mike

Mike is usually "right on" with his recommendations but this time, I think he should have also mentioned Regent Seven Seas Cruises. The Seven Seas Mariner has just 700 passengers and every cabin has a balcony and is a minimum of 265 sq ft plus the balcony. There are four open seating restaurants; two of which you do need reservations. The entire cruise is Country Club Casual. You can look at their website at www.rssc.com and go to "plan a voyage" and click on Alaska.

Thanks Mike for the information. Do you think June is a good time to go? We sailed with NCL 4 years ago in Hawaii ....our maiden voyage and loved it. How are the off shore excursions for Alaska for NCL? Any particular ship? I see a lot of negatives posted about NCL but we had no complaints in Hawaii. How does Royal Caribbean and Princess compare to NCL?
