Do I have to contact Carnival to become a VIP? I have been on 10 of their cruise over the last 20 years. I would assume that they keep tract
of things like that
It would be wise to contact them and ask them how many cruises they have logged for you. If less then 10, then ask them the ships and dates they have for you. If any are missing then you may have to prove to them which ones they are missing.
You can go to the carnival website and look at your profile. From there, click on "cruise history" to see if Carnival has all of your cruises listed. If not, there is a place to add or change the history. If you don't already have a profile, you should be able to set one up using your past guest number.

I called carnival but their records of my cruuises in the 1980's are in arcives and they have no access to them. They asked for proof of those cruises like baggage tags and old receipts,. Unfortunately all proof is long gone. Any suggestions ?
Unless you have proof those cruises are lost. Don't rember the year they started keeping up with past guest info but anything before that requires you to mail them proof for cruise credit. I had the same issue and unfortunately that is the way it works.
Thanks for the reply Scurvydod. I was afraid that would be the answer to my question. Only thing left to do is book more cruises on Carnival.
I can deal with that
Sounds like a plan (booking more cruises), but I would keep a record myself. I actually have my boarding pass booklets and invoices for all 10 of my Carnival cruises and have two more booked right now for this year (April and August).
Were you able to find out how many and which cruises Carnival has in their current records? If so, maybe you can still piece together the missing information. If you used a TA to book, they might have a record in your profile at their office. Might be worth checking out.

That's too bad, but your post made me start thinking and doing a little investigating myself. When we booked a cruise for our kids and grandchildren in 2006 I booked them all together. Each cabin and family had its own booking number but all the docs were sent to me and the travel insurance was under one policy. I had booked another one for all of us for April this year. One family had to cancel so we booked them for August. The TA could not find a past guest number for them so I pulled my cruise files out and found the booking numbers and they were able to find them. I have now advised each one of them to set up their own Carnival profile on-line to check that all the cruises they take get recorded in their history. I would not have done this except for your post on this thread.
I guess you will have to start accumulating more cruises to get your VIP status, but just keep your own records on it.
