newbie question

Are their any cruise lines that leave from a Port rather near Panama City Fl?
I have a granchild and her folks there and would like to travel from Chicag to PCFL and then take then on as cruise that would require no more airfare.
Thanks for any help or advice.

The closest cruise ports to Panama city and the pan handle are:

1. Port Canaveral

2. Jaxport in Jacksonville.

Depending upon how old your grandchild is you may want to consider a 3 or 4 day Disney cruise to the Bahamas leaving Port Canaveral. They have some good deals for this coming fall starting at $349 per person for the 3 day and $449 per person for the 4 day cruise.

The following url will show you the pricing for Disney And, you can use the search engine for other dates and months too. Though my sons are grown, we're considering Disney 4 day as our family vacation Oct 2009. Never too old to love the mouse

Other cruise lines sale out of Canaveral too. Carnival Glory and Royal Caribbean Marineer of the Seas sail as well, also with some good deals.

I think Carnival (and maybe Royal Caribbean) have returned to the Port of New Orleans. I think that may be closer than Jax.....

From the Gulf of Mexico map I've looked at New Orleans will be a slightly longer trip by approx 60 miles. IMO Port Canaveral is the better alternative, more cruise choices and some better ships from the major cruise lines.

And, the Canaveral area is great for pre and post cruise site seeing; Kennedy Space center, WDW, Universal Studios, or even enjoying the pristine beaches in the Canaveral area.

Carnival Holiday leaves from Mobile, AL which is the closest port to Panama City; however, it is Carnival's oldest ship and only goes on 4 & 5 day trips to Mexico. Hopefully this helps.

I just booked our vaction for 2009 directly through Disney cruise lines.

We got great inside rooms on deck seven at $449 per person for the 4 day Bahamas cruise in October. Great room selections for fall of 2009.

I don't know how old your grandchild is. But, Disney Wonder is excellent for persons of any age. My grown sons are psyched for this ship has something to offer everyone; child and adult alike :D
