Default How late is too late

Ok...I was not planning on taking a cruise in 2009 due to not planning ahead...I am a planner of everything! Anyways, I will be going to GA in Feb to move my daughter and I was looking at a cruise out of Jax, Fl in Feb and wondered what would be the latest time I could book if I decide I want to go. I wont know if I can go or a date until she makes up her mind on her move date. I know that on my 1st cruise we booked a month out, but I may not even have that much time.

So can you tell me when the cruise lines, in this case Carnival, close out their booking? And If I am able to book, will I have enough time, say a week or so to get the documents from the cruise line? I have never been a last minute peson, but the price is so great and since I will be in the area I really want to go.

When you book that late, they won't send documents, but do everything on-line and do the fun pass. You can get luggage tags once at the pier too.

Carnival is the best cruise line for working with you on last minute bookings. As Donna said you can pick up your docks at the pier. You can't print a Fun Pass if your under 24 hours though, but you can still get it done that late.

Not sure exactly how late but we just booked on Tues night for a cruise leaving Oct 20. And yesterday I was able to complete the online registration and print out all docs needed, including one copy of luggage tags.

Only 11 days till we are cruising!

I love booking last minute. Do everything you can online and start your engines!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's great not waiting too long to leave. It's a real bummer to say "oh, I have 220 days till my cruise." Aaargh. I don't do that anymore.

You can book upto the day of sailing. Once you get a booking number then you can just present that at the pier.

Take care,
Mike

Mike,

I thought that since 9/11 the cruise lines had to close bookings at least 72 hours prior to sailing. They have to give the passenger manifests to Homelnad Security or something like that before the day of sailing, don't they?

Nancy,

That was actually incorrect information that even I believed. It was that way for about a month after 9/11 and that was it. I also believed who I thought was a "reliable" source that it was 72 hours but have now learned I need to verify things on my own.

The manifest must be submitted to Homeland Security one hour before sailing. It was 24 hours a few months ago.

The current requirements are:

Carnival: Day of sailing
RCI: 24 hours before sailing

Take care,
Mike

I called to book and was told that I could have waited to day of sailing if there was room. I am taking a upper/lower cabin on any deck. $526 total for 4 nights. I just could not turn it down. Now I hope my passport gets here soon. I sent it out 2 weeks ago. Has anyone ever stayed in the upper/lower bunkbed type cabin? My big cruise in Feb 2010 I am splurging on a balcony cabin. This one is just a mini vacation to celebrate my freedom

Tbow,
The bunk bed cabins are actually one of our favorites. Usually in a quiet area and surprisingly roomy. I was nervous about it the first time, but no problems. Have fun!
