First cruise questions

I have been looking around at several topics. Not ready to bother a travel agent yet. Don't know what questions to ask or what to look for. looking maybe at an alaska 7 day cruse with princess in Aug. (too soon or to late to start?) Just picked princess as a starting place. Why are some cruses and ships cheaper than others ( island princess vs. sapphire princess ) ( $600. vs $1200.) Both go to the same place a few days apart. Both get to Whittier at 12:30 AM, do you get off at that time or wait untill morning?

I would try to pick a ship/itinary and get in touch with a travel agent and see what space is available. Alaska cruises fill up quickly, so by seeing now what there is, may help you decide which one to do.

In todays economy, every ta worth their salt, will gladly answer your questions, and if you get the feeling they are not happy with your call, hang up and try another.

Princess in Alaska is a good start, as is HAL...now is the time to ask the questions, and, get something booked..As Donna said..Alaska does sell quickly, for choice sailings especially.

Generally, when a ship arrives in port, once customs have been cleared (but I dont guess that applies to Alaska) you are free to leave the ship.

Oftentimes, the cost will vary, depending on the age or size of the ship. The newer ships will always be more.
